A new skate park has opened in Aberbargoed, after children in the village petitioned Caerphilly County Borough Council.
The newly installed ‘street course’ was officially unveiled by local children and dignitaries with Aberbargoed Primary School and Ysgol Bro Sannan pupils arriving on scooters, bikes and roller skates.
The project, commissioned by Caerphilly County Borough Council, was supported by a number of authority and community funding pots.
Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, and ward member for Aberbargoed, Cllr Keith Reynolds, said: “I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience.
“We are also very grateful for all those involved in the design and construction phase especially members from the local youth club who helped shape the final design of the facility.
“Seeing the smiling faces of the children here today demonstrates that the facility was worth waiting for. We should all be very proud.”
A petition was given into the council in 2012 and after consultation the scheme was agreed upon.
I find it disgraceful how you give the kids the worst skate park in the world, they made ramps and jumps using a shovel and dirt for your men to only come and put a fence around it so the kids can’t enjoy the ramps they made instead of the pathetic excuse you call a skate park! My kids really enjoyed going there and hitting the dirt jumps they made and if it’s because of health and safety then the concrete skate park and a metal fence around it is more a cause for health and safety than a dirt jump! I don’t feel safe letting my kids down there now as if they do come off they’re going straight into a metal fence instead of a bit of dirt, a helmet and knee pads won’t protect the kids from a metal fence! I think you should take this into consideration as your not the ones playing in the skate park and as I said riding into a metal fence is worse than falling on dirt! Thanks angrydad
