An MC-ing pensioner from Newbridge is a finalist in Brains’ Real Welsh Legends campaign.

Gary Prince, 72, is one of ten finalists in the brewery’s campaign to find and celebrate local heroes from every Welsh town, village and pub.

The retired steelworker has been an officer at the Whitehead Sports and Social Club, in Newport, for more than 30 years, and is well known for his Saturday night MC-ing where he steals the show with his witty wisecracks and entertaining sense of humour.

He was nominated by fellow club member Karen Dohert, who said: “Gary is one of those well-known characters in the area that everyone knows.

“Some of his jokes do flop and he’s the only one left laughing, but he doesn’t care.”

Mr Prince said: “I would be very proud to be crowned a Real Welsh Legend, although I just see myself as an honourable guy who just gets on with people.”
