A newly-opened restaurant has taken on its first apprentice.

Donna Day, 22, has started work at the Harp Inn in Gelligaer and will be under the tutorage of chef Mustapha El-Malali.

Donna, who studied catering in college, said she found the original position through Careers Wales six months ago and was thrilled when she was offered the chance to become an apprentice.

And she will be in good hands, as The Harp Inn’s chef Mustapha has recently returned from London after having worked for the likes of Gordon Ramsey and Marco Pierre White.

Mustapha has previously worked at top London restaurants Topo Gigio, La Monde, Bayside Brasserie and L’Escargot.
