A local songwriter is helping to raise money for Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall by writing and recording a charity single, with all proceeds going to the fund to help fix the building’s roof.

Desmond Sun recorded Raise the Roof after hearing about volunteers’ efforts to find funding to refurbish Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall. The single is available to buy on iTunes and Amazon.

Kathy Lye, the volunteer committee’s chair, said: “We were so surprised and very pleased to hear the news that Raise the Roof is on sale. It’s a great song with a really catchy chorus and we’re hoping that the public will love it as much as we all do.”

The committee is aiming to find enough funding to refurbish the Workmen’s Hall so that the town can have a community venue for social and entertainment events.

Last year, Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall became a registered charity.
