10,000 visit WWI exhibition at New Tredegar’s Winding House museum

News | | Published: 11:00, Monday July 6th, 2015.

Almost 10,500 people have visited the Winding House museum’s World War One exhibition since it opened in August last year.

Our Duty to Bear – The First World War and Caerphilly County Borough, based at the New Tredgar museum, explores how World War One impacted on local families.

It looks at the difficult conditions experienced by serving soldiers on the front line, as well as the concern and heartache of those back home.

Using a collection of artefacts and photographs, most of which have been loaned by members of the local community, the exhibition provides a poignant insight into the lives of everyday people during global conflict.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning & Sustainable Development said: “I am pleased to hear that so many people have visited Our Duty to Bear at the Winding House.

“This poignant exhibition provides a fascinating insight on how the First World War affected the local area. The artefacts and photographs on display provide a brilliant, thought provoking reminder of the human cost of this war.”

The exhibition is due to close late September and is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm and on weekends from 11am to 4pm. Entry is free.
