Free child car seat testing available in Caerphilly and Bargoed

News | | Published: 13:00, Monday July 6th, 2015.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards department are offering parents and carers the chance to have their child car seats safety tested at an event this week.

Experts will be on hand this Friday July 10 between 9.30am and 4pm at Asda in Caerphilly as part of a safety drive to identify unsuitable or poorly fitted equipment.

At a similar event, the team carried out 110 free safety checks and found that 53% of those tested failed with at least one fault.

Of these, 30% were minor issues that could be rectified there and then, allowing parents to continue their day knowing their child car seat was safe.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Public Protection, said: “With just a little extra knowledge parents can help ensure their children are safe during car journeys, and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and make use of the expert advice on offer for free at this event.”

Another car seat safety testing event will also take place on Friday July 31 between 9.30am and 4pm at Morrisons in Bargoed.

For more information or advice, call Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards team on 01495 235291.
