A 63-year-old man from Cwmfelinfach has been jailed for downloading indecent images to his computer.

Kenneth Jenkins, of King Street, Cwmfelinfach, was sentenced to six months at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, December 15, after he admitted possessing 57 indecent pictures and videos of children – some as young as three.

The court was told that following intelligence, police officers searched Jenkins’ home in July this year. Jenkins admitted to officers there and then that he had downloaded the images.

A search of the computer’s hard drive found the images and software that was used to download and hide them from detection. There was no evidence found that he had shared them.

Jenkins will serve half his sentence in prison and will then be released on licence for 12 months. He was made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

A total of 57 images, including six videos, were found. Ten were of the most serious Category A, 20 were Category B, including five videos, and 27 were Category C, including one video.

Prosecutors said the age of the children was an aggravating feature of the case as well as the software designed to hide the images.

Jenkins’ defence argued he had no previous convictions and that there was a prospect he could be rehabilitated with the defendant keen to stress he would not do it again.

He was sentenced to six months and will serve half in prison before being released on licence for 12 months. The judge also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
