The terminally ill mother of missing Newbridge man Kyle Vaughan has said she wants to lay her son to rest before she dies.

Speaking to mark the third anniversary of her 24-year-old son’s disappearance, Mary Lucas said doctors had given her just weeks to live and that she was making one final appeal to find her son.

She said: “He went missing on December 30, 2012, and somebody knows where he is and somebody knows what happened to him.

“I’m making this appeal because I’ve been told I’ve got months or weeks left to live. I just want to find Kyle and lay him to rest so that when my time comes I can go with Kyle.”

Gwent Police have made eight arrests in connection with Mr Vaughan’s disappearance, which they are treating as murder, but all have been released without charge.

Detective Chief Superintendent Bill Davies said: “Three years ago Kyle went missing. Mary’s, and the family’s, life has been in limbo. They have been a very close knit family and for Mary to lay bare these facts [about her illness] takes an awful lot of courage.

“It is a decision that Mary and the family have not taken lightly.

“At this time of year, many individuals will be spending their time with their loved ones and family and I would ask those individuals who may know something, or know something third hand, about Kyle to take a moment to stop and think about the situation that Mary finds herself in.

“Her family, and the police, are desperate for these individuals to who can make the difference for us in finding Kyle. If anyone is concerned about their identity and their anonymity, I want to assure them that can be achieved.”

Mr Vaughan, 24, was last seen on December 30, 2012 driving on the A467. His damaged silver Peugeot 306 was later found on the same road at around 11.45pm between Risca and Crosskeys.

Police believe the car was in a crash and that Mr Vaughan had managed to walk away from it.

Known to friends as ‘Jabbers’, the former Cwmcarn High School pupil is suspected to have been murdered.
