The 58-year-old victim of a fatal car crash which happened in Newbridge has been named by police.

Paul Derek Daley, from Cefn Fforest, was killed when the Citroen C3 he was a passenger in was in a collision with a VW Passat on the A467 Trecelyn roundabout at 9.55pm on Wednesday, January 27.

The family of Mr Daley has released the following tribute: “Paul loved his family, who all loved him dearly. Paul and his girlfriend of 15 years Kay were head over heels in love.

“Paul was the type of brother and uncle that any family would be grateful for.

“He would light up a room with his sense of humour and wicked smile.

“Rest in peace Paul, we will all miss you very much.”

Gwent Police said the woman driver and the other male passenger from the C3 were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport with non-life threatening injuries. The man has since been released, but the driver remains in hospital in a stable condition.

A 22-year-old man from the Newport area was arrested at the scene on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information about the collision can call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number: 527 27/01/16.
