An accountant with 30 years’ experience has decided to branch out on his own.

Karl Stephens has opened his own practice, called KS Accountants, at the Welsh Innovation Centre for Enterprise (ICE) on Caerphilly Business Park.

Mr Stephens, who is targeting SMEs, said: “Starting up on my own is something I have always wanted to do and something I had regretted not doing.

“It is the best thing I have done. I’m just enjoying being my own boss.

Mr Stephens is the beneficiary of the Welsh ICE 50 scheme, where the business start-up base offers help and support to those wanting to go into business.

However, Mr Stephens said he was keen to give back and has offered his mentoring services to fellow entrepreneurs at Welsh ICE, where Caerphilly Observer is also based.

As part of his offering, Mr Stephens said his business will guarantee a personal, friendly, and professional service.

Mr Stephens said he is targeting SMEs with turnovers between £6 million and £8m, but will also be offering his services to smaller firms thanks to the power of the internet and “cloud accounting”.

He explained: “Online accounting software is considered by many to be the way that the industry is heading because it enables business to keep an eye on their company’s financial position in real time.

“We wanted to find a product that was easy to use for our clients that have no accountancy training, but still provide us with the information we need to provide a quality service.

“We have found exactly that, and the fact that we can access data live over the internet means we can be more pro-active in supporting our clients.”

Hopefully they’re expert tax advisers to save businesses from crippling taxation rates.
