Gwent Police has issued a warning to players of a new mobile phone game to stay safe and not break any laws.

Pokemon Go has taken the country by storm and encourages players to use their mobile phone to hunt down and collect “pocket monsters”, known as Pokemon, from real-world locations.

There have been reports of people getting themselves into dangerous situations while playing the game.

Last week a group of teenagers in Wiltshire entered an underground cave network to search for Pokemon and got stuck 100ft below ground.

Gwent Police have warned players not to make themselves vulnerable by avoiding dark areas while playing and to concentrate while crossing the road.

The force has also warned players not to trespass on private property.

Chief Inspector Nick McLain said: “This game has really captured the imagination of people all over the country, myself included. We don’t want to discourage people having fun, however, we do want to make sure that they’re doing so safely and legally.

“Please take care when playing the game and make sure that you are still concentrating on the environment around you, being mindful of any potential dangers it could pose.”
