Rugby youngsters benefit from supermarket’s scheme to get children active

Children from Newbridge Under-10s rugby team are celebrating after receiving new equipment as a result of Sainsbury’s Active Kids scheme.

On Thursday December 1, colleagues from Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith presented the training equipment to the youngsters at an assembly.

Sainsbury’s customers collected vouchers in store between January and May, earning one voucher for every £10 spent in supermarkets and online.

The vouchers are then redeemed by local schools, groups and clubs in exchange for a variety of equipment and experiences.

Katie Woodhouse, of Newbridge rugby, said: “We’d like to thank Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith for their support and for presenting us with the new equipment. I know all of the children are really excited to start using it.”

Alyn Davies, store manager at Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith, added: “We really enjoyed spending time with the Newbridge Under-10s rugby team and it was great to see how the new equipment is going to benefit all of the children.

“Over the past 11 years our customers have played a massive part in ensuring we continue to encourage all children, regardless of ability, to lead healthier, more active lifestyles.”
