A couple from Abertridwr have been jailed for four months after police tasered a man during his girlfriend’s birthday celebrations at the Celtic Manor resort.

Jade Williams, of Bryn Aber, Abertridwr, and Dafydd Williams, of Cefn Ilan Road, Abertridwr, were celebrating the former’s birthday in November last year at the five-star Celtic Manor hotel in Newport.

The pair, both 27, began drinking at midday and police were called after Jade bared her breasts to spa staff while in a jacuzzi.

Cardiff Crown Court was told that the couple’s behaviour had been “truly appalling” as they drunkenly clashed with police and staff at the hotel.

Both have been jailed for four months after pleading guilty to affray charges.

Prosecutor James Evans said: “The couple had received warnings about their behaviour before police were called.

“This included showing her breasts to staff in the spa.”

The court heard how Jade Williams threw a cup of water over one police officer and her boyfriend hit another, who needed hospital treatment.

Mr Evans added: “The officers resorted to using a taser and pepper spray on him [Dafydd Williams]. They fired the taser for a second time and only then were they able to restrain him.”

“The officer suffered swelling to his jaw. He suffered with loss of sleep, long period of pain and discomfort and reduction in his confidence as a police officer.”

The court also heard that after their arrest the pair continued their “violent and abusive behaviour” with Dafydd Williams engraving a swear-word into the cell he was in.

Gareth Williams, defending Dafydd Williams, said: “The behaviour at the Celtic Manor hotel was absolutely appalling.

“He went there as a treat, there was over-excitement in relation to going there. On this occasion, he acted arguably out of character. He is not the violent type.”

Ruth Smith, defending Jade Williams, said: “This was an anticipated treat, but unfortunately matters deteriorated and it became an unpleasant experience.”

Judge Paul Hopkins QC described the pair’s behaviour as “truly appalling”.

He said: “Police were called to your room and you flew at one of the officers, flailing your arms at you did so.”

“Your behaviour, Jade Williams, galvanised Dafydd Williams to begin to behave in the most aggressive manner.”

Dafydd Williams was sentenced to four months in prison after pleading guilty to two charges of affray and a charge of criminal damage.

Jade Williams received a four-month sentence after pleading guilty to affray, a public order offence, assaulting a police officer and possession of cannabis.

Gwent Police Superintendent Glyn Fernquest said: “Assaults on officers simply doing their jobs is never acceptable and it is encouraging to see the courts have handed out custodial sentences on this occasion.

“I know that we can continue to count on the support and assistance from our communities while we carry out our duties.”

Sadly I think this loutish poor behaviour is a problem across the length and breath of the U.K, too much alcohol too few brain cells, what is worrying is that uncouth folk like this breed and re-produce clones of themselves.
