The ex-manager of Burger King’s Caerphilly restaurant has been handed a suspended jail term after he admitted stealing almost £12,000 from the till to satisfy a gambling addiction.
Aled Miles-Yates, 23, of East Avenue, Trecenydd, stole the cash between April and June this year when he was employed as the manager of the fast food branch.
Miles-Yates admitted a single charge under the Theft Act 1968 of stealing £11,984.57 and was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
At a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, on Tuesday, July 25, prosecutors said concerns were first raised by bosses and that Miles-Yates was seen on CCTV putting the money from the till into a bag.
The father-of-two, who has no previous convictions, started working at the Castle Court Shopping Centre restaurant as a “crew member”, but within a year had been promoted.
He was told by the Judge to pay back CPL Foods, owner of the Burger King franchise, £10,052.50 over the next two years and was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £340. He also has to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in a period of 18 months.
