Primary school pupils have been praised for their work in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Tyn-y-Wern Primary School in Trethomas has been awarded the highest phase of Caerphilly’s Healthy School Scheme.

Laura Phillips, healthy school co-ordinator at Tyn-y-Wern, said: “We are extremely proud of the award and to be recognised for the hard work and commitment of the pupils, staff and parents.”

To gain the award, the school had to ensure that health and wellbeing was covered in the curriculum across all phases.

It was commended for its healthy eating options, staff being good role models, and its wide range of after school clubs.

Being awarded the highest phase means the school can now gain national accreditation for its work.

Launched in 2008,the Caerphilly’s Healthy School Scheme is part of the wider Health Challenge Caerphilly project – set up by the county council and the health board.
