A number of projects throughout Caerphilly County Borough have recently been given the green light.
The projects have been approved as part of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s £10 million Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) environmental improvement programme.
Around £260,000 has been committed for improvements in Penyrheol which include an extension to the skate park and the installation of an outdoor gym.
Penyrheol,Trecenydd and Energlyn Community Council are also contributing £15,000 for the skate park,along with £2,225 from the Area Forum Budget.
New parking facilities will also be provided for residents in Gellideg and Penybryn.
A package of projects worth around £58,000 has also been approved for Fochriw.
These include additional fencing throughout the area,extra play facilities and a green gym.
Roundabouts in the Churchill Park area of Caerphilly will also be raised after residents complained that cars were driving straight over them. The work is estimated to cost around £46,000 and will also include a general tidy-up of the area and improvements to stop people climbing on garages.
Cllr Lisa Phipps,the council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Places,said: “The environmental standard is a key element of the WHQS and the council is committed to helping create communities tenants feel proud of and want to live in.
“Engaging communities and partner agencies is vital in ensuring projects are sustainable and meet the needs of local people.”
Cllr Steve Scrivens,Penyrheol,Trecenydd and Energlyn Community Council,added: “It is very pleasing to see the development of a partnership approach to deliver an upgraded skate park at Aneurin Park,Penyrheol.
“It’s been a longstanding objective to achieve an improved facility and demonstrate support to the area’s young people.
“We hope the facility will provide a location for young people to meet,have fun,get some exercise and have their own space.”
