Caerphilly County Borough Council is calling on communities to join together and take part in its Big Spring Clean project.

The annual clean-up campaign sees hundreds of volunteers collect tonnes of rubbish over the course of a few weeks.

The project has started and some residents have co-ordinated local spring cleans. Pupils from Coleg Gwent in Crosskeys have cleared the tow path and canal verge in Risca and Pontywaun.

Cllr Nigel George,Cabinet Member responsible for Community and Leisure said: “Over the next couple of months residents will notice people making an effort to clear areas of common land, embankments of water courses and other high profile spaces.

“The project generates a fantastic response from residents who get involved and inspire others to care about the appearance of their local community.”

Residents who would like to get involved in a community clean-up,or who would like to organise their own activity should call 01443 873 758.
