Two lanes have reopened on the Pwllypant Cedar Tree roundabout this morning, Wednesday March 28.

The roundabout, where the A468, A469 and Pontygwindy Road meet, has been operating under single lane restrictions since the new year with traffic travelling south on the Llanbradach bypass required to merge into one lane.

Cllr Sean Morgan, deputy council leader, said: “We are pleased with the progress being made on site and we very much welcome this latest positive step forward in the delivery of the overall programme of works.

“The council’s engineering team continues to work closely with the contractor, Walters UK, to explore all options available to reduce disruption whilst undertaking these necessary works.”

“We would like to thank everyone in the community for their ongoing patience and co-operation.

It is likely the contractors will need to return to single lane arrangements for a few weeks during August to complete essential elements of the scheme. The council has said the work will coincide with the summer school holidays, when traffic flows are significantly reduced. This was as a result of the recent cold weather.

Changes have also been made to the design on the Bedwas and Trecenydd arms, meaning temporary traffic lights during peak times will no longer be required.

Works to these areas will progress from April 3 for a period of approximately four to five weeks and late evening and night working will be used for this limited period.

The improvement works, costing in excess of £5 million began in October last year and are set to last until October this year.

If only somebody could get inconsiderate cretins to use their indicators at this and other roundabouts we wouldn’t have to unnecessarily stop and wait too see where these twits are going.
