Caerphilly County Borough Council has agreed to make care leavers up to the age of 25 exempt from council tax payments from April.
Caerphilly Council’s cabinet decided at its meeting on Wednesday March 14 that care leavers between the age of 18 and 25 will be exempt from council tax payments as a means of supporting them into independent accommodation.
Cabinet Member for Social Care and Wellbeing Cllr Carl Cuss said: “This provides additional support to allow care leavers to move into independent accommodation.
“This is a time of their lives when care leavers transitioning into adulthood can face challenges in terms of managing money for the first time without family support.”
