Very sad times that someone would attack someone from the emergency services who are there to help them. We need a law in place which is specific to protect the emergency services with minimum jail sentance of 5 years in prison.
You are right – all Emergency Service and all NHS staff deserve the protection from such legislation.
A minimum sentence of 5 years would show people that such acts will be punished.
