Residents warned to be vigilant after properties burgled in Rudry and Machen

News | | Published: 18:32, Thursday May 17th, 2018.

Jewellery and cash is believed to have been stolen during two burglaries in Rudry and Machen.

A home in White Hart Drive, Machen, was broken into between 10.30am and 11.40am on May 8, and a jewellery box was stolen from a property on Darren Close, Rudry, between 10.15am and 11.45am on May 16, Gwent Police said.

Officers are asking residents to be vigilant and to make sure they are security conscious.

A police spokesman said: “Please be aware of any random callers who may be in your neighbourhood knocking doors asking for work, or offering garden or guttering services.

“Also, consider whether you have recently advertised items for sale on websites. Be careful not to include your full address.

“Have you noticed any unusual activity in your street recently? Have you seen unfamiliar people or vehicles loitering nearby?

“Please be aware that criminals could be waiting for you to leave your property or monitoring your routine.”

Any concerns or information relating to the incidents should be reported to Gwent Police on 101.

We need police on the street not driving around in cars, a constable should be out there walking around. To replace the Constables we were given CPOs who now drive around in cars, we were then given caerphilly wardens who have now disappeared althougher. We have a 3 tier police system in out borough and we dont see any of them. The war on crime had been lost and the biggest loosers are the residents of Caerphilly borough.

Yes I’ve noticed unusual activity around Machen – why so many so called scrap metal dealers cruising this area, is it really neccessary for 3 or even 4 to visit the same street on the same day, these scrap vans need to be robustly monitored and regulated. On 30th April I witnessed one of these ‘scrap vans’ travelling out of Machen closely followed by a blue Vauxhall Astra almost causing several collisions as they recklessly sped away in the directing of Bedwas, they were most certainly up to no good.
These vehicles are cruising around looking for easy targets, I’ve already witnessed 2 this morning drive slowly down the road, turn around and leave. Caerphilly Council and Gwent Police should be doing something about them, they should all be banned and removed from our streets.
