Pupils across Caerphilly County Borough have enjoyed a special celebration lunch, with a menu fit for a Monarch, to mark the Royal Wedding.

Prepared by Caerphilly Council’s catering department, the lunch consisted of a chicken dinner with roast potatoes and was served on Friday, May 18.

Dessert saw the choice between jelly, a favourite at any street party, or an individual lemon cake topped with Union Flag icing.

At many schools the meal coincided with various celebrations including parties, special assemblies and non-school uniform days.

Pupils at Hendre Junior School, Caerphilly, dressed in their finest clothes for the occasion and were treated to a special-themed assembly and ‘street party’ on the yard.

Children at Britannia Day Nursery on Caerphilly Business Park also held their own celebratory party to mark the wedding of Prince Harry and US actress Meghan Markle.
