A 28-year-old man has been arrested for trespassing following the closure of Caerphilly railway tunnel.
Commuters between Caerphilly and Cardiff were faced with delays for over an hour this morning as police searched for the trespasser on the Rhymney line.
Trains travelling between Caerphilly and Lisvane and Thornhill were stopped following reports of somebody inside the tunnel at 7.30am.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called to the line near Caerphilly Tunnel this morning following reports of a person trespassing on the tracks. The person was removed from the tracks at 7.33am.”
“A 28-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of trespass and railway obstruction, and is currently in police custody.”
The line remained closed until around 9am while further investigations took place. Delays and changes to services continued until around 11am.

Ticket acceptance was agreed between Arriva Trains Wales and Cardiff Bus for passengers to travel on Cardiff Bus services between Lisvane, Cardiff Central and Penarth.
Ticket acceptance was also agreed for Arriva ticket holders to travel on Stagecoach buses between Caerphilly and Cardiff.
An Arriva Trains Wales spokesperson said: “We worked closely with our partners in the British Transport Police and Network Rail to minimise the disruption and agreed ticket acceptance with local bus companies for customers and we thank everyone for their patience during this incident.”
