Retiring members of staff with senior council members at Ty Penallta.

Five senior members of staff from schools across the Caerphilly county borough have been thanked for their service as they retire from the profession.

The retiring members of staff who have over 100 years of experience between them, were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour, where they were thanked for their service by representatives of the Council.

The careers of Steve Noel of Tynywern Primary School, Peter Ward of Bedwas High School, Jane Mather of Blackwood Primary School, Jackie Nash of Pentwynmawr Primary School and Huw Wiring of Cwmcarn High School were all recognised at the service in Ty Penallta.

Mr Noel, headteacher of Tynywern Primary School, was appointed as Deputy Head Teacher in 1997 and became Head Teacher in 2011.

Mr Ward was appointed to the post of deputy head teacher of Bedwas High School in 2000, before stepping into the role of headteacher in 2008.

Jane Mather joined Blackwood Infants School in 1991 before being made deputy head teacher in 1995 and again in 2001 when the school amalgamated into Blackwood Primary School. She was appointed as head teacher in 2008.

Jackie Nash of Pentwynmawr Primary School has recently retired after 18 years in the role of head teacher, nine of which were with Pentwynmawr Primary School.

Huw Wiring was made deputy head teacher of Cwmcarn High School in 2000 before taking on a more senior role.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement, said: “I was delighted to welcome retiring teachers to Penallta House where they were thanked for their hard work and dedication in playing such a vital role in the education of the next generation.

“On behalf of the Council, I wish all of those members of school staff in Caerphilly who are leaving at the end of term a very long and happy retirement”.
