More than 30 chickens are believed to have been poisoned

More than 30 chickens are believed to have been deliberately poisoned at an allotment in Brithdir.

The RSPCA has appealed for information following the gruesome discovery made on Monday, November 12.

The chickens were found by the allotment owner at the site on Tennyson Terrace.

They had been frothing from their mouths and had blood on their heads, which, the RSPCA says, indicates that they were poisoned.

RSPCA Cymru said the nature of the chicken deaths is “highly suspicious and disturbing.”

They have asked for anyone in the wider New Tredegar area with information to contact their appeal line.

The owner of the chickens believes that the deaths may have been caused by poisoned corn feed.

RSPCA inspector David Milborrow said: “This was a gruesome discovery – with dozens of chickens found dead, having been frothing at the mouth and with bloody combs, at this Brithdir allotment.

“Clearly, the death of these poor birds is highly suspicious and disturbing – and we fear the chickens would have suffered immeasurably by any poisoning.

“There is strong evidence to suggest any poisoning was a deliberate act – and we are calling on the local community to come forward with any information they may have. Our inspectorate appeal line can be reached on 0300 123 8018.”
