A blood donor has been recognised by the Welsh Blood Service after completing 100 donations.
Andy Hall, 59 from Caerphilly, was among 152 donors recently celebrated at a ceremony held in Cardiff.
Mr Hall said: “I’ve been giving blood for around 29 years, after encouragement from my sister.
“At first I didn’t think I could do it because I’m asthmatic. I started because it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m still going strong after all that time! I’m so glad I gave giving blood a try that day.”
The 152 donors recognised at the ceremony have donated 5,875 units of blood, 6,700 units of platelets and 26 bone marrow donations.
It is estimated the donations have helped 24,000 patients.
• The Welsh Blood Service needs to collect 450 blood donations every single day to supply hospitals across Wales with blood for patients in need.
The service relies entirely on the generosity of donors coming forward to save lives across Wales.
