Main Road, Maesycwmmer

Armed police were in Maesycwmmer on Sunday, August 18 after reports of a man with a firearm.

A Gwent Police officer later said the man was not a “threat to the public”.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “At approximately 3.40pm on Sunday, August 18, we were called to Main Road, Maesycwmmer, following reports of a male in a vehicle with a firearm.

“Following enquiries, officers located a 27-year-old man in possession of an airsoft weapon, which is used for paintballing. Due to the nature of the call, armed police were sent to the location to ensure the safety of the public.”

Chief Inspector Ryan Francis said: “We are satisfied that the call was made in good faith and there was not any threat to the public. No arrests were made and the man has been given suitable advice regarding responsible transportation of airsoft weapons.”
