Two men jailed for growing cannabis

Two men from Penyrheol have been jailed for growing cannabis.

The pair, of Pen y Groes, were caught growing 54 cannabis plants in May 2018.

David Michael Beckett, 51, was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of producing a controlled Class B drug.

Meanwhile, Joshua Liam Beckett, 23, was jailed for three years after pleading guilty to a charge of producing a controlled Class B drug, as well as conspiracy to supply a Class B drug.

The pair appeared at Newport Crown Court on August 14.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “We aim to tackle those who profit from selling these drugs, especially to some of the more vulnerable people in our communities.

“These drugs can have devastating consequences.

“Our work to tackle organised crime is so important to stop these most serious issues from harming our local communities.

“Information from the public is so important – you see what happens in your local areas and know when something is suspicious or out of place.

“Please do contact us and know it will be dealt with seriously. What may seem like a small detail to you, to Gwent Police, it could be the final piece to a much bigger puzzle.”
