A pumpkin patch in Cefn Fforest has opened its gates to visitors in the run-up to Halloween.

Pencoed Fach Organic Farm has around 10,000 pumpkins, which have been growing at the three-acre site since May.

The farm has 15 different varieties of pumpkin, and the best seller is the Jack-O-Lantern.

This will be the fourth year of pumpkin picking at the farm.

David Davies, a fifth-generation farmer at Pencoed Fach, said: “Last year, we used to wash the pumpkins but there has been so much rain this year – we’ve seen more weeds than pumpkins.

“Pumpkins are really important for us. As a small farm, it’s difficult to make money.”

The farm will be offering ten-minute trailer rides at the back of a tractor for £2 per person. Weather permitting, the trailer will take the families for a ride around the fields.

Pigs, sheep, chickens, geese, dogs and for the first year, goats, will also be seen around the farm, which will be open for pumpkin picking every day from 9am until 6pm, depending on the weather.

Visitors don’t need to book in advance or pay for entry, but pumpkins will range from 50p to £15 depending on size.
