Body found identified as missing Nelson rugby player

Brooke Morris played rugby for Nelson RFC Belles

A body found in the river Taff in Trelewis, near Nelson, has been identified as that of missing rugby player Brooke Morris.

Ms Morris, 22, had last been seen at around 2.30am on Saturday, October 12 after a night out in Merthyr Tydfil.

Ms Morris, who played rugby for Nelson RFC, received a lift home to Trelewis before her disappearance.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 17, South Wales Police said: “We can confirm that the body recovered from the River Taff has been formally identified as Brooke Morris.

“A postmortem is due to be carried out to determine the cause of Brooke’s death.

“Thank you to the local community for the help they have given to the search effort.”

Former Welsh international rugby player Andrew Coombes tweeted: “Heartbreaking! Unbelievably upset by this news.

“My thoughts are with the family, friends and the Nelson Belles at this sad time.

“Brooke you have shown us all that our community is an incredible one, you will be missed by so many.”
