Greggs looking to open new branch at St David’s Industrial Estate near Pengam

Greggs has applied for planning permission for this unit in Pengam

The UK’s largest bakery chain, Greggs, could be coming to St David’s Industrial Estate in Pengam.

Plans have been submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council to convert an empty unit at Pinewood Court into a branch of the bakery.

The application, submitted on behalf of Greggs, also includes plans for an outside seating area and car parking provision.

The proposals include indoor seating for up to six customers and outdoor seating for up to eight.

There will be 12 car parking bays, two of which would be disabled bays.

The application says Greggs would “generate a net increase of ten jobs, approximately two full-time positions and eight part-time opportunities”.

Planning permission has been sought for the unit, which has been empty since its building in January this year, to operate between 5am and 10pm seven days a week.

However, the branch is expected to operate during these hours only on weekdays.

On Saturdays it is expected that there will be reduced hours from 8am to 4pm. It is anticipated the bakery will be closed on Sundays.

The plans will be considered by Caerphilly council’s planning committee in the coming months.

Caerphilly Observer previously reported how Greggs was interested in the site in 2017 following the launch of a branch of Howdens.
