A pub in Caerphilly town centre has been commended for the quality of its toilets.

The Malcolm Uphill pub on Cardiff Road has received a platinum rating at the Loo of the Year Awards 2019 – the highest rating possible.

This is the third consecutive year the JD Wetherspoon pub has received a platinum rating.

Inspectors judged the toilet for its decor, maintenance, cleanliness and accessibility, as well as the hand washing and drying equipment, alongside overall management of the loos.

John Stephens, who manages the pub, said: “We are delighted with the award. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in first class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.

The Loo of the Year Awards 2019 managing director, Mike Bone, said: “The toilets at The Malcolm Uphill have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained. The pub richly deserves its platinum award.”
