Two households in Caerphilly County Borough have black and white TV licences

Two households in Caerphilly County Borough are still exclusively using black and white television sets, TV Licensing has revealed.

Across Wales, a total of 242 households have a black and white TV licence, compared to 6,586 across the UK.

The data was published to mark the 50th anniversary of colour on BBC One.

A black and white TV licence is needed to watch live television or use BBC iPlayer on a black and white monitor, but a full licence is needed to download content from iPlayer or to record live television.

Helen Wild, spokesperson for TV Licensing Wales, said: “Whilst only accounting for a very small proportion it’s interesting to know that some households still like to watch their favourite shows on a black and white telly.”
