The scout hut of the First Sirhowy Scout Troop has been renovated thanks to help from Pontllanfraith Rotary Club.

After being approached by the scouts for help, the rotary club provided new electrical wiring and eight new electrical heaters.

At a recent visit to the huts in Pontllanfraith, rotary club president Faisal Abu-Moghli fixed a plaque in the hut to commemorate its renovation.

Rotary club member Robert Dodds said: “We have been able to donate over £20,000 to 30 local charities in the last 12 months, but we would not be able to do this without the continued support and generosity of the local community.”

It’s been a busy few months for the rotary club, visiting towns and villages across the Islwyn area with their Christmas sleigh to raise money for charitable causes.

The club also held a painting competition with 23 primary schools in the Islwyn area and are giving dictionaries to every primary school pupil in Islwyn before they move up to comprehensive school.

Members of the club also held a ‘Businessman’s lunch’ at Bryn Meadows golf club in Maesycwmmer, with more than 230 local business people attending to raise funds for charity.
