Police have warned school pupils in Caerphilly town after they were tipped-off about a planned fight set to take place this afternoon (Thursday, January 23).

Gwent Police says officers will be on foot patrol in the area to prevent people from congregating and to try and stop any fights that do break out.

Officers will also be working with British Transport Police, which will be monitoring trains to try and identify anyone who is coming to Caerphilly to take part in the fight.

Inspector Gavin Clifton of Gwent Police said: “We have been made aware that pupils from Caerphilly may be planning to have an altercation with others this afternoon.

“We advise and urge anyone involved in any potential altercation not to get involved.

“We are also working with the local schools to identify anyone being involved. Anyone identified as being involved will receive a visit from officers.”

Inspector Clifton added: “Officers locally will be providing high visibility foot patrol and mobile patrol in the Caerphilly area to prevent any groups or persons congregating for the wrong reason in order to deter and disrupt any altercation which may take place.”

Inspector Clifton also said that police will be using CCTV to “monitor different locations to identify persons intent on causing a fight in the locality of Caerphilly”.
