More than half a million pounds is set to be pumped into the redevelopment of the fitness suite and Newbridge Leisure Centre.

The work is set to begin on Friday, February 7, with the fitness suite being redesigned and made bigger. New equipment will also be fitted.

Work is expected to finish on Friday, June 26 – with the fitness suite and squash courts closed for 20 weeks while the work is carried out.

Fitness instructors based in Newbridge will be relocated to Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre during this time period.

Plans to close leisure centre to be put on hold, says interim council leader

Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre will host extra classes and open for longer hours to accommodate users of Newbridge Leisure Centre.

Cllr Nigel George, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment and neighbourhood services, said: “The redevelopment at Newbridge Leisure Centre showcases the council’s and Sport and Leisure services commitment to the continued improvement of the facilities that we are able to provide to the residents of Caerphilly.

“I am delighted that work is set to begin and welcome the timely completion of the project that will provide an exciting new development to one of Caerphilly’s busiest leisure centres.”
