Man arrested after armed police called

Police closed the short stretch of the A469 for a short time

A 42-year-old man is due in court this morning after armed police were called to a stretch of road near a busy roundabout.

Police were called last night, Monday, May 11, at around 5.20pm to Mountain View, Pwllypant. Officers temporarily closed the road between Pwllypant and Llanbradach.

An eyewitnesses reported seeing armed officers aiming towards a wooded area.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “We had a call at about 5.20pm reporting concern for the welfare of a man in the Pwllypant area of Caerphilly.

“Firearms officers did go to Mountain View as a precaution and a man was arrested, he has been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place.

“The 42-year-old is due to appear before Cardiff Magistrates Court today.

“No-one was injured and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this.”

It was the second time in two days that armed officers had been deployed in Caerphilly.

Police were called to Nantgarw Road on Sunday, May 10, in an unrelated incident.
