
A 69-year-old man has appeared in court after armed police were called to a house in Caerphilly town.
Paul Chamberlain, 69, of Nantgarw Road, Caerphilly, appeared before Cardiff magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 12.
Chamberlain was charged with affray under the Public Order Act 1986.
He was remanded in custody and will appear before Newport Crown Court on June 9.
Two men were arrested following what police described as a “disturbance” at the house in Caerphilly town.
Armed police were called at around 3pm on Sunday, May 10, to the house on Nantgarw Road near to the Caerphilly Players’ building.
A 23-year-old man and a 69-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of affray.
Police said the 23-year-old was released with no further action.
Nantgarw road was closed until around 5pm with a significant police presence at the scene – including officers in protective equipment.
Chief Inspector Ryan Francis tweeted that police negotiators and armed police had attended.
A statement from Gwent Police said officers were called to a report of a “disturbance” and that no-one was injured during the incident.
It said: “We can confirm we are not looking for anyone else connected to this incident but we appealing for any witnesses or any individuals who may have any information relating to this, to please contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log reference: 2000161289.”
