Stefan Morgan has been jailed for eight years

A burglar who knocked a man unconscious with a metal bar has been jailed for eight years.

Stefan Morgan, of Station Road, Abertysswg, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, June 29.

Morgan, 25, was handed an eight year sentence for Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent, and a one-year sentence for aggravated burglary that will run concurrently.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £181 upon release.

Officer in charge, Kristian Herridge said: “This was a sustained and frightening incident for the victim and his partner.  They were woken in the middle of the night by a masked intruder who was armed and determined to steal items belonging to them.

“When challenged by the victim, Stefan Morgan had ample opportunity to cease his course of conduct, but persisted and struck the victim over the head with a metal bar, causing a head injury and for the victim to temporarily lose consciousness. He made off with a number of items.

“This incident has had a profound impact on the victim’s confidence, leading to anxiety issues.

“Despite this, the victim remained supportive throughout the police investigation and can now start to rebuild his life knowing that the defendant has received a substantial prison sentence.”
