The attack happened at around 7.45pm on Commercial Street, between the Tamarind restaurant and the Texaco garage.
The victim, who was driving a blue Vauxhall Zafira, reportedly beeped his horn at a pedestrian, who threw a bottle at the car before leaning in through an open car window and punching the driver in the face.

After an appeal by Gwent Police, a 31-year-old man from Caerphilly was arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been released on police bail.
Inspector Andrew Boucher, of Gwent Police, said: “Our officers will continue to be visible in Risca and other parts of our community to provide reassurance to our communities.”
Police are also investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted on a footpath near Commercial Street, Risca, on Wednesday, September 23.
