A 74-year-old man was taken hospital after being punched in the face in Risca on Friday night (September 25).

The attack happened at around 7.45pm on Commercial Street, between the Tamarind restaurant and the Texaco garage.

The victim, who was driving a blue Vauxhall Zafira, reportedly beeped his horn at a pedestrian, who threw a bottle at the car before leaning in through an open car window and punching the driver in the face.

The victim, from the Crosskeys area, was then taken to hospital. Gwent Police has said he’s in a stable condition.

After an appeal by Gwent Police, a 31-year-old man from Caerphilly was arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been released on police bail.
