A protest was held outside Caerphilly Castle today (Friday, October 23), with Wales preparing to enter a 17-day ‘firebreak’ lockdown in an attempt to control the spread of the virus.
A group of around 50 demonstrators, some with placards, were photographed at the protest.
One placard read: “No to Bill Gates”, accompanied by a drawing of what appears to be a vaccination needle.
Mr Gates, the founder of software giant Microsoft, has been the target of coronavirus hoax conspiracies after he warned of the possibility of a future global pandemic in 2015.
Another placard read: “Tell Lie Vision” – a play on the word ‘television’.
Photographs from the protest appear to show a number of the protesters failing to abide by social distancing measures and not wearing face masks.
A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “We were aware of a planned protest on Friday, October 23, at Caerphilly Castle.
“Engaging with organisers, we encouraged all those attending to follow social distancing.
“We thank those who followed these restrictions and ask everyone to continue to play their part across our communities.
“Our response to any public gathering will always be fair, proportionate and in line with current restrictions.”
