More than £1,000 has been raised for charity through a volunteer-led mince pie and mulled wine delivery service.

Volunteers at the Marie Curie Caerphilly Fundraising Group delivered the festive treats to residents in Caerphilly town, Bedwas and Trethomas on Friday, December 11.

The volunteers delivered 85 goody bags, with a further 20 given to members of Bedwas-based Quickstep Fitness Gym.

Members of the gym held a socially distanced 5k walk in the pouring rain on December 12, in aid of Marie Curie.

In total, £1,150 was raised for the charity, which aims to support people with terminal illnesses and their families.

Over the summer, the group raised more than £800 for Marie Curie by holding a cream tea delivery service.

Group secretary Margaret Churchill said: “We are so happy to have raised such an incredible amount for Marie Curie this Christmas.

“Usually we would be out bucket collecting in the local supermarkets, but this year we have been unable to do so.

“Thank you to everyone who helped and took part in the weekend’s fundraising.”

Volunteers also thanked the Morrisons store in Caerphilly town, as well as the Co-op in Bedwas, for donating the mince pies and mulled wine.
