Keeping in touch with your small community

Living in a small community has many benefits. Here are a few things you should know about life in a less densely populated area:

Smaller communities have higher rates of happiness
Larger towns and cities have issues that are not experienced as readily in small communities. Higher rates of crime, pollution, and noise can make it hard for city residents to be able to make the most out of their lives. Time spent in crowded streets and the feeling that one is always on the move can add to stress. In small towns, people are able to operate at a more leisurely pace. You don’t have to be as concerned when you cross the street if you live in a town with little traffic. Noise levels are also simply less when there are less people per square mile.

Closer and longer lasting relationships
If you live in a small community it is pretty hard not to get to know those around you. In many small places, families have known one another for a long time. As a result, there is a higher standard of courtesy and respect. If you don’t know that you will ever see someone again there is not as much incentive to be as kind and courteous as possible. When you see the same people regularly, you become close to them in a way that cannot be matched.

Keeping in touch is key
Those in small towns and neighbourhoods find it important to stay in touch with those around them. For example, if a young adult in the neighbourhood goes away to college, he or she will be sure to want to call people from back home in order to keep up with how they are doing and to celebrate milestones. The Lingo home phone service offers discount phone plans for those seeking an easy to use phone service. International and long distance calling plans means that you can stay in touch with friends and family, no matter where you or they are.

A great place to raise a family
Due to the safer atmosphere and higher quality of life, a small community is one of the best places to raise children. Those who grow up in a small and nurturing place have a higher level of self-confidence and they are more likely to receive the support they need to thrive. Close-knit friendships can make it easier for your child to get through those tough developmental years.

Lower real estate prices
While it is not always true that small areas have lower real estate prices, it can often be the case. Rural communities and neighbourhoods with older and smaller homes can be great value for those just starting out in life. As strange as it may seem, many people pay a premium to live in congested cities, because they are close to jobs and other amenities. If you can deal with not having everything as close as possible, then living in a small community may be a very good option for you and your family.
