After appointing Sean Wharton in June this year, Aberbargoed Buds have announced they are parting ways with their manager after seven games.
Wharton’s side have had a disappointing start to the season, winning just two of their first seven after winning a league-cup double last year.
Expectations were set high by Wharton before the season kicked-off, dubbing the newly promoted side as “the team to beat” in the Ardal South East.
When asked if this was the right time to make this decision, Buds secretary Graham Evans said to Caerphilly Observer: “Is there ever a right time? It could have been now or before Christmas.
“We came together as a committee and agreed the results aren’t what we hoped for. We reflected for a long time but agreed with Sean that the time was now.”
The club thanked Wharton on social media for his efforts and wished him well in the future.
Prior to his Buds appointment, Wharton had experience coaching Barry Town United’s Women’s team, having represented Sunderland, Cwmbran Town and Inter Cardiff (now Cardiff Met) during his playing days.
On a replacement, Mr Evans said: “There’s no immediate replacement yet and we’ll be addressing it shortly. We hope to see a bounce in tomorrow’s game against winless Blaenavon Blues.”
