Cascade Women lost 6-0 to a dominating Briton Ferry Llansawel side in the Adran South league.
The gap in quality was on full display from early on when the pair met at the Centre for Sporting Excellence on Sunday October 8, with Alison Witts getting the first goal.
A further two from Witts, as well as goals from Laura-May Walkley, Mollie Jones, and Megan Kearle, meant a comfortable win for Ferry, who are yet to ship a goal this season.
Kick-off
Cascade began the game with a clear plan, which involved keeping an extremely high defensive line.
The benefits of doing this is making it difficult for good passing sides, such as Briton Ferry, from having much space to work with in midfield.
It also makes it difficult for the attackers to remain onside, which did catch a few Ferry players out early on.
Both sides seemed a little flat to open the game. Some cheap passes were given away leaving some frustrated.
Full of confidence after their recent 10-0 win however, it wasn’t long before Ferry found the back of the net.
They needed the help of Cascade though; miscommunication between Casey Thomas and Hannah Moger saw a hopeful through ball split the pair and find Mollie Jones.
Jones in space burst down the left channel before cutting in and passing to a red hot Alison Witts – who grabbed three goals and two assists in her last outing.
Witts tapped home from a metre out to put the visitors one up inside 15 minutes.
There was no real reaction from the Cascade players following the goal. They were second to everything, and despite Mia Kemp’s best efforts to get the team going, nothing changed.
The first chance of the game for the hosts fell to captain Katie Davies, who was shown red in her last game in the cup when Cascade lost 3-2 to Swansea University.
Her half volley from the edge of the box was a good strike, but always wide left.
Moments later up the other end and the visitors had their second. This time beating the offside trap, which naturally leaves space in behind, Jones found herself through on goal.
She did well to finish after being pushed wide right by the defender, her strike beat keeper Chrissy Kidley and it was 2-0 to Ferry in the blink of an eye.
The visitors continued to pile on the pressure. A shot from Laura-May Walkley was saved well, but Cascade were hanging on.

It wasn’t long however until the game was lost. Kidley played a goal-kick out to Daisy Evan-Watkins but there was just a bit too much pace on the pass and it was intercepted by Megan Kearle who quickly moved the ball to Walkley.
There was nothing Kidley could do about Walkley’s finish, which found the far right corner. 3-0 at half-time.
Second-half
Cascade didn’t start the second-half much better than the first. Briton Ferry were still controlling the game and creating chances.
Lewis almost pulled one back when her long range free-kick hit the bar, but keeper Courtney Young wasn’t too concerned as it always looked high.
At the other end, Chrissy was doing her bit to keep the score line respectable. She made a great save to deny Witts her second.
The dam finally burst after an hour played however, the visitors were queueing up in the box when a blocked shot by Walkley found the feet of Kearle who made no mistake in making it four.
A rare corner from Cascade forced a good save from Young, but any goal now for the hosts would have been a consolation.
The sun was still beating down on the players, and both would have been happy to hear the final whistle.
The visitors weren’t done yet though. A poor goal-kick from Chrissy only went as far as forward Lowri Baker. The substitute headed it down to Witts who punished the error and made it five.
A last minute corner from the visitors saw Witts leap above the rest and secure her hattrick, and the win, with a header.
It was a day to forget for Cascade, who were up against a very good side in Briton Ferry that are yet to concede a goal this season. They’ll have another tough test in their next league game against Cwmbran Celtic.
