Bargoed edge closer to the title with a big win over the weekend

A thumping victory for Bargoed over the weekend keeps the Bulls hot on the heels of table-topping Cardiff Met with games in hand.

It looked a comfortable game on paper for Bargoed, who were fresh off a WRU Championship Cup victory at the Principality Stadium, and it proved to be just that on the road to bottom placed Treorchy.

The Bulls ran-out more than comfortable 75-7 winners to continue their title charge.

There wasn’t such good news for fellow Caerphilly-based Championship East sides who all also played on Saturday April 20 however.

Newbridge’s good run of form was halted in a 57-19 loss to Ystrad Rhondda, whilst Bedwas were edged-out 41-38 at home to The Wanderers.

In League One East, Ynysddu claimed an emphatic 82-0 shutout win over Pontypool United to strengthen their grip on third, whilst Nelson, one spot behind in fourth, also secured a win with a 46-32 victory over Abergavenny.

Elsewhere, there was an all Caerphilly clash between Senghenydd and Risca, with hosts Senghenydd securing the bragging rights with a 49-22 win.

Down in League Two East, both Caerphilly sides struggled over the weekend. Blackwood’s promotion push took a dent with a 52-12 loss against Newport HSOB, and Oakdale suffered a 41-24 defeat against Phill Harriers at the bottom end of the table.

In League Two East Central, Caerphilly tightened their grip on fourth with a narrow 42-37 win on the road over Gilfach Goch.

Dropping down to League Three East, Fleur De Lys welcomed title-chasing Abercarn United and managed to produce an upset with a 36-24 victory.

There was success for Abertysswg Falcons too with a 43-8 win over RTB.

Meanwhile in League Four East, Crumlin suffered another defeat, this time a narrow 24-17 loss to Newport Saracens.

There was more bad news for other Caerphilly sides in the division with Bedwellty losing 40-26 on the road to Bettws, and New Tredegar suffering defeat at home against Crickhowell, 14-33.

After Pontllanfraith secured the league title in League Five East last weekend, only Hollybush were in action, winning 31-22 at home to Abersychan Alexanders.

Finally in League Six East, Deri moved further clear at the top with a 35-12 victory over Tredegar Ironsides, however bottom placed Cwmcarn United were thrashed 108-0 away to Hartridge.
