In their first season of competitive football, Caerphilly Dragons Girls FC U12s celebrated a remarkable unbeaten league-cup double.
Coach Ron Hurn explained to Caerphilly Observer how after a few trial matches last summer, the ‘blue’ team were placed into division one of the South Wales Women and Girls league.
“We didn’t really know what to expect coming into the season. Our blues were placed in the top division and our reds went into division three.
“A few had played together at U11s but this was a big step up. They smashed it though to their credit, we didn’t lose a game all season.”

Hurn added how it was a good first season for the reds too, finishing third in their division.
He continued: “It has been a great season all-round. Not just the U12s, but the whole club is going from strength-to-strength. We have over 250 players at this point.
“It was our first season with a senior side too which was great. They finished the season strong after a tough start.”
The club will continue to play through the summer, with Hurn’s U12s already picking up yet more silverware over the weekend at a tournament in Cardiff.
“The girls have all made friends throughout the season, some go to school together but they all get on really well.

“We might have a little break at some point during the summer but it’s difficult because the girls are so keen to get out there playing.”
More details about the club and how to join can be found online.
