Pontymister Athletic Bowls Club welcomed fellow borough side Ynysddu for a South Monmouthshire League match, hoping to continue their good form.

The match started with Ynysddu holding a slender lead of three shots after five ends. By the halfway point however, it was the Mister Men who had a 16 point lead.

The visitors fought back, and at one point looked like they may pinch the game, but in the end, Pontymister dug-in to win by 11 shots and record a 63-52 win, claiming all 12 points.

Report

Rink two saw Simon Webb, Ian Holder, Ken McKinnon and Jack Collier take on Karlos, Callum, Jon and Dai P.

After a difficult start, the Mister Men took a commanding six shot lead. Ynysddu put the pressure on towards the end, but Pontymister held on well to win by four shots.

Rink three brought together lead Dai Bowd, Richie Jones, the returning Andy Elias and Richie Murphy who played Rhys, Harrison, Sticky, and Roger.

Pontymister dominated from the start and played some excellent bowls in recording a ten point win.

Rink four was made up of Spanner, Andrew Davies, Mike Lyons, and captain Chris Beale. They were up against Andrew Trevis, Rob, Dai and Marc.

The Mister Men led for the lion’s share of the game, but a great finish from the Ynysddu side gave them the points in a seven shot win.

Finally, on rink five, father and son Ethan and Chris Symmonds, Ian Collier and Graham Smith played the experienced four of Alan Harrhy, Wilf, John and captain Mark Warwick.

In a tight game throughout, the Mister Men just edged home with a four shot victory.
