Machen Cricket Club defeated Pentyrch over the weekend

Despite some positive results for Caerphilly-based sides over the weekend, there are still several who face the drop in the South East Wales Cricket League.

In division two, it was an all-Caerphilly affair between Blackwood Town and Newbridge Cricket Club.

Newbridge have been the stronger of the two sides this season and opted to bat first, setting a very high total of 296 for the hosts to chase.

Blackwood fell 88 runs short, all out in the final over. They remain one from bottom whilst Newbridge move-up into seventh.

There was good news for both division three sides, as Machen hosted Pentyrch looking to return to winning ways.

The visitors batted first and set a decent total of 221 for Machen to have a go at. They managed the chase inside 37 overs and won by five wickets.

Crumlin made the short trip to Lisvane where the hosts batted first and set a low total of 133, all out in 33 overs.

The visitors met the target with ease, eventually winning by eight wickets. They sit a spot behind Machen in seventh.

With no game for Pontymister Athletic in division four, we move to division seven where Abercarn faced a strong Monmouth side.

Monmouth batted first and and set a decent total of 241, all out after 37 overs. The visitors had half a chance, but fell 60 runs short.

Abercarn sit seventh after that loss.

There was another derby match in division ten between Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer and Blackwood Town’s seconds.

Cefn Fforest batted first but set a very poor total of 131 for the visitors to tackle. Blackwood managed the total in 32 overs and won with seven wickets to spare.

Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer remain one from bottom with two wins.
