Pontymister Athletic Bowls Club claimed a recent victory over Abercarn

Pontymister Athletic Bowls Club have beaten local rivals Abercarn in a South Monmouthshire League match.

Hosts Pontymister took an early lead and maintained a comfortable enough gap for the rest of the match, eventually running-out 60-45 winners.

Report

Rink two for the home team saw lead Shaun Kenvyn matched with Beynon Jones, Mike Lyons and Sid Phillips. They were drawn against Bryn Elias, Phil Mac, S. Lewis and G. Tutten.

After a close start, the Mister Men struck hard picking up nine shots in three ends with Mike Lyons on fire and eased to a comfortable win by seven shots.

Rink three brought together Spanner, Jamie Roberts, Frankie Trepleton and captain Chris Beale who faced a very experienced four in Ty Evans, T. Carpenter, Peter Robinson and Keith Caddick.

The game was extremely tight with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions before the Abercarn four edged ahead thanks to some clever bowls from their back end players, winning by three shots in the end.

Rink four saw Dai Bowd with Andrew Davies, Ken McKinnon and Graham Smith take-on some very familiar faces in the form of D. Hayes, captain Brian Viney, Dave Wiltshire and the talented Mike Edmonds.

The game was a very tight low scoring affair with only one end yielding a three throughout, but it was the hosts who shaded it by four shots.

Finally on rink five, Simon Webb continued as lead along with John Sheldon and young Eiffel Symonds and Roger Simms. They were challenged by the Abercarn four of A. Medcalfe, C. Reeks, Doc Cooper and  M. Woodward.

Pontymister played some lovely bowls early on to take a lead and never looked back, winning 12 of the 18 ends and recording a seven shot victory.
